Inetractive Media Rational...
Overall withing the interactive media section of my first year i dont think i got what i expected from the module & definetly did not enjoy it as much as i hoped i would of. I think this was partly don to the fact of i couldnt really make myself click with it and make the projects fit within my interests, i think i would have had much more fun with maybe creating a website or something which i felt i could put to good use, rather than just a quiz etc?. Although during learning how to make this quiz using action script 3 i have learned some basic principles from which i am confident with a few days effort i could build a simple portfolio website that i would be proud of, so i am happy to have learned those skills, i just wish i could have put them to better use withing our breifs themselfs.
My quiz itself i wasn't really a fan of & thought i was just making something completley random, but looking back, really it was almosr a pop culture quiz, with the questions being based on art, music & celbereties etc, i am glad looking back now i could tie it down to a theme & not sure how i can across managging that with no real thought proccess.
My influences as far as the asthetics of the quiz go were not really based around any other quizes i had seen/researched or knew of, but inspired by my interest in graphic design & graphic design trends. I used my interest in this & scanned my images folder for some images or styles i could use withing the quiz, & i noticed lately everything used well erm triangles & geometric shapes....so i decided to use these design aspects for the mian look & feel of my quiz.
Down to the technical side of the quiz.
After hearing everybody else moan how hard action script 3 was & how it was stupidly confusing....i actually found it quite easy to understand? (just very very boring), i think for some reason being good at maths helped me alot to understand the coding etc. This being said i should of perhaps tried more complex coding looking back? but the main factor was i just found coding very very tedious & simply wanted to finish it as soon as possible if im completley honest...although i may look into it another time when creating my website. Also i just noticed that within flash cs5, it has code presets for almost everything anyways....thats always helpful to cheat with.
Overall on this project i felt like it should of been my weakest as it perhaps had the least thought proccess and effort? but somehow i still prefer it over my 3d.

Virtual Enviroments.
For this breif i was asked to create a lair/house/space...which consited of 4 different rooms in Autdodesk 3DS Max.
This project is probaly the one i am least happy with my work, but i think that is down to myself again for leaving it quite late, but also sort of giving up towards the end & just settling with something that when i looked at it i just felt like 'meh' instead of spending an extra day on it to create something which i could be proud of creating.
The thing i most struggled in this project was that i did not know what i actually wanted ot create, a superhero lair?, a living space, or something completley of the chart. I think i must have started over around 10 times which actually wasted alot of time, after spending a good few hours on each one.
I then decided after looknig through my images folder on my macbook i wanted ot create something simplistic, modern...in some mountain type of scenery but also wanted to keep it quite gritty.
I then one night came across something called 'Project redsand' in a pirate radio documentary on www.vbs.tv

(A picture of Project Redsand)
Project Redsand is basically a group of people who inahbitated a group of abandoned worl war 2 anti-aircraft forts of the coast of kent, they then turned these structures into a community which has been gonig strong for 40+ years now & are pushing for independance as a country & have their own currency. Just seeing this image gave me the inspiration i want and i decided to create my space around this inspiration, here is a screen shot.
Even though i now had my inspiration i still struggled quite alot with the project, mainly with motivation aswell as what would go inside the space itself. I ended up just sort of sticking with my original idea of something simplistic & gritty. I then searched through my images for alot of different textures etc i wanted to use and began modelling then on top, eventually ending up with my final piece.
(the final 1 minute animation)
I am far form happy with the final clip, the camera is far too jumpy, the rooms are far to empty & it doesn't even show the full extent of work, but i suppose this is why im not going into 3D work next year right?...
Project Rationals.
okay so this is going to be LONGGGGG ass post.
But i just realised i have to write them for my uni course.
Moving Image.
For my moving image project i was given the script 'Poor Adhesion Site'
When i original first read through the script i was actually pretty confused as i was trying to figure what it was actually about, it jus didn't make much sense too me. However after about 30 minutes of thinking i realised i didn't really have to understand it all that much & try to make a rational film, soon realising that i could pretty much make anything out of the script.
After thinking & jotting down ideas for the film me & Harvey who i was working with agreed on trying to make the film quite dark & awkward. Listening to what other people were filming they seemed they were just following the script in a simple way all creating the same sort of film. I wanted to create something different, something dark, simple, awkward & with a twist.
Our idea was that instead of just having the main character (max) simply being filmed talking to his counsellor, we wold only film max himself in around 4/5 different shots trying to concentrate completely on the character...& some of the shots being from the perspective of what would be his character. Then at the end we would take a side long shot & slowly zoom out to reveal the whole room which then reveals the whole time max had been talking to somebody in his head & just an open space.
I Think Personally i took alot of influences from Roman Gavras, his way of creating a sort of dark social commetary and using quite powerful yet simple shots in his videos was something i admired. Also i think i took in fluence form alot of british films such as 44 inch chest, Sexy beast, Love Hounour & obey, these films all have a dark undertone, with alot of pshycological cut scenes from inside a characters head or bizarrre scenes of the character giving a cometary like the beginnign part of this clip from love, honour & obey.
We rushed our film quite a lot as we left it far too late! but we had huge problems with getting a location....i wasn't all to happy with our final location but it was better than nothing at all! & it could work with some editing visually.
Heres some UN-EDITIED screenshots from the film, i want to create a certain sort of visual style when i actually do edit it, i cant quite describe it but i may just photoshop these screen shots to show you another time.
